The acerola cherry (Malpighia punicifolia L., also called "Antilles or Barbados cherry", but not related to our native cherries) has its origin on the Mexican peninsula Yucatan and then followed its route across southern Texas Central and South America, to the Caribbean and is now successfully grown mainly in Brazil, but also in Asia and India.

Acerola cherry trees reach heights of up to 5 meters and prefer moist, warm, nutrient-rich locations. Fruit shape (round to flat-oval) and fruit color (orange-yellow to dark red) are very variable depending on the location and harvest time. The taste is slightly sour and has a fine apple note.

Even today, Indian tribes from the American rainforests traditionally use the acerola cherry. Vitamin C contributes to the normal functioning of energy metabolism and the nervous system and helps to protect the cells from oxidative stress.

Recommended consumption : Depending on your needs, mix a teaspoon (approx. 1.5 g) 1-2 times a day with fruit and vegetable juices, ideally also rice milk, or with yoghurts, buttermilk, muesli, Desserts, fruit preparations and much more enjoy.
