How healthy is high calorie food?
The most important points in brief
- People who are temporarily unable to eat normally for health reasons are given high-calorie food.
- This food substitute fills you up, but does it also provide the necessary nutrients?
- A question that is often asked is whether high-calorie food can replace our usual diet one to one.
What exactly is high calorie food? It is a liquid meal replacement that is used in particular in the care of old and sick people who cannot - or no longer - eat as usual, i.e. who cannot tolerate solid food. Popular parlance calls this type of diet “astronaut food”, and not without good reason.
What is the goal of high calorie food?
Those who are sick or old often have difficulties with the ingestion of solid food. And anyone who suffers from cancer, is receiving cancer therapy (such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy) or has had a serious procedure, has no appetite and does not feel hungry. But the body still has a need for minerals, nutrients and vitamins.
The goal of high-calorie food is therefore to supply the organism with these substances when they cannot be supplied with normal nutrition. The public attitude towards sippy food has changed recently, more and more people now know that it can be a good enough substitute.
So there is acceptance for high-calorie food - what about the nutrients?
So high calorie food is filling, as the name suggests, and it is now widely accepted as an alternative. But do the items really contain all the nutrients you need? Usually that is the case. This snack is valuable not least because the ratio of carbohydrates, fats and proteins is fairly balanced. But that's not all, although it does at least achieve a certain degree of saturation.
No, it is at least as important that the high-calorie food of our time, and this applies to most manufacturers, also contains vitamins and minerals as well as trace elements that the body so urgently needs. These nutrients are absolutely vital for the organism, a deficiency in certain trace elements, vitamins or minerals can lead to serious symptoms of all kinds after a short time. So if you need high-calorie (drinking) food, you should be careful to cover all these areas when buying. Only then can the initial question of whether this food is healthy can also be answered in the affirmative.
Can high-calorie food replace the usual diet?
Because high-calorie food - as mentioned above - relies on a healthy ratio of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, it can definitely replace normal food if it also contains trace elements, minerals and vitamins. However, so that this type of diet does not become monotonous, it is important to keep changing the flavors offered.
The fact that this food is a bit monotonous in the long run should of course not be concealed at this point. Fresh food, especially fruit and vegetables, is of course completely missing here - if you have the opportunity to have a fruit salad or the like for yourself or the sick or elderly in between. to loosen up the menu a bit should do that, of course depending on whether this is medically permitted.
By the way, in the Kanela online shop you will find a large selection of products from the field of high-calorie food, including not just drinking food, but bars and more.
