Is hay fever rash a normal reaction?
The most important things in brief
- Anyone who is allergic to certain pollen suffers from hay fever and watery eyes, mostly during spring and summer.
- But the largest human organ, namely the skin, is often affected.
- Like a contact allergy, hay fever can also cause an itchy rash.
- To prevent this, skin care is essential. Strengthened skin is a stronger barrier, prevents pollen from penetrating and protects the immune system.
Our skin has an important protective function. Its job is to ward off everything that can harm us, such as bacteria and viruses. The skin is a very robust barrier, which is not least an important part of our immune system. If our skin is weakened, it is easier for antigens to penetrate it. The bad thing about it: Allergic reactions to hay fever can also manifest themselves on the skin.
How does the skin react to allergic substances?
If you suffer from hay fever, you're probably already busy enough trying to keep the discomforts of a constant runny nose, sneezing and burning, watering, itchy and red eyes at bay. All symptoms that occur due to the release of histamine. If your skin is still showing allergic reactions, then you have another burden to fight.
If your skin is not completely healthy anyway, for example if you suffer from neurodermatitis, then pollen can penetrate more easily - the result is reddening of the skin, which usually starts to itch immediately. It is not uncommon for this redness to develop into a skin rash that is uncomfortable. Usually these symptoms, no matter how annoying they are, are not a serious threat to your health. But wouldn't it be great if you could minimize the risk of allergic skin reactions to pollen in advance?
Protecting the skin also means preventing allergic skin reactions
If you treat your skin with care, it is always good for your overall health. A prime example of this is sunburn. If you avoid it as much as possible, you ensure that your skin does not show any damage with age. And if you also take care of your skin and thus the natural barrier, invaders of all kinds have a much harder time of it - and that includes pollen.
Of course you can rely on all kinds of creams and lotions when it comes to skin care. In some cases this is essential, for example when it comes to supplying the skin with lipids. However, taking care of this organ is not always particularly complicated. You can already protect the skin by not using cleaning agents that are aggressive when cleaning at home. You should also not let your protective barrier dry out.
Skin protection is easier than you think
Just not wearing clothes that itch your skin helps protect it. And if, despite all precautions, the skin is a little dry, fruit acids are usually a tried and tested means of restoring the balance.
So all in all, skin protection is a lot less complicated than you might think. A normal dose of common sense often helps. Especially if you are allergic to hay fever, you can ward off a lot of unpleasant reactions in advance by being careful with your skin.
