Pests in the garden - this is how you can protect the environment against vermin
The most important points in brief
- All animals fulfill a function in nature and are therefore an important part of the ecosystem.
- In your own garden, however, there are animals that can cause damage, whether it is ornamental plants or self-grown fruit and vegetables.
- Not only insects and worms, but also mammals belong to the pests.
- But how can you take action against them without taking too much responsibility for the plants in the garden - in other words: How can you combat vermin in an environmentally friendly way?
The love for animals is a good quality of the human character as it shows empathy. But at some point it’s also good, because some beetles, worms and insects, but also mammals can cause quite a bit of mischief in your own garden. The strawberries are gnawed by snails, the tomatoes by caterpillars or tomato leaf miners and the blackberries by blackberry gallflies. Not to mention the aphids that spread on many plants.
Pests attack most plants
The animals don't really care whether the plants are useful or ornamental. Both are annoying for people, but it is especially a shame for home-grown fruits or vegetables. So it is important to use articles against pests. A few years ago, mankind used cannons to shoot sparrows and use poison - poison that was then ingested through food after the crops were harvested because it does not degrade in the plants.
We are now a good bit further here. Because in addition to the health concerns for us humans, it has become clear to us that the plants and, last but not least, the soil are damaged and contaminated by the use of certain agents. Such a procedure then not only keeps the vermin that is targeting the plants, in extreme cases it destroys all life in the garden. This must be avoided as much as possible, after all, we like to see bees and bumblebees buzzing around and pollinating plants. And many other microorganisms are just as useful in our gardens.
If the vermin gets out of hand: Call the exterminator
Unfortunately, it is not possible to keep all pests away from our plants alive, especially not when they attack them in large numbers. Rats and mice, for example, perish about five days after they have eaten a bait. The traps for cockroaches, wasps, mosquitoes and ants also kill the animals, but without them having to suffer. If you have the feeling that the plague can no longer be mastered with environmentally friendly means from the pest control category, then it makes sense to hire an exterminator.
It can happen that you have vermin in your garden that also targets edible plants. The only important thing then is that you react prudently and not immediately start handling poison. Anyone who owns their own piece of garden should demonstrate their love for nature - and that includes pests - and tackle the vermin, but in such a way that it does not cause any major damage to the flora.
