Pregnant in summer: this is how you can get through the summer with a baby bump
The most important points in brief
- For most women, summer is the most beautiful time of the year.
- Most people find a pregnancy to be extraordinarily beautiful and want to enjoy this time.
- But what if the last phase of pregnancy falls in the summer heat - is the stomach a torture then?
- It doesn't have to be that way, because with these tips you can get through the maximum summer temperatures even with a baby bump.
Pregnancy - especially if it is the first - is probably the most wonderful time in most women's lives. But many are not afraid, but have great respect when the high phase of pregnancy falls in midsummer and the Raise temperatures to a heat wave. With the tips and tricks in this post, pregnant women can still get through the summer heat well and reasonably easily.
Useful information about sun protection during pregnancy
Sure: The skin should be protected from too intense solar radiation, and not just during pregnancy. But it is precisely then that there is a risk that more pigment spots will form because the hormone MSH (it stimulates melanocytes) is released. Regular application of large amounts of sunscreen helps against this, and the higher the sun protection factor (SPF), the better.
In general, the shade of the blazing sun is preferable during pregnancy in midsummer. At least in the afternoon, when the temperatures are approaching their highest values. In the morning and late afternoon or evening, however, the sun's rays are also valuable for pregnant women because the body produces vitamin D through them. This is also good for the baby, especially for the bones, it strengthens the nervous and muscular system and supports the body's defenses.
Nutrition and fluid balance are important for expectant mothers
It is extremely important that pregnant women drink enough water or diluted fruit juice, especially in midsummer. Two liters a day is the minimum, but the following applies: the more fluid, the better. Unborn babies suffer from increased heart rates when expectant mothers do not drink enough, and that means pure stress for them. Fortunately, as a pregnant woman you will notice early if something is wrong with your fluid balance; Often there are circulatory problems, headaches and dizziness.
Summer also means: barbecuing! But be careful, raw eggs (e.g. in mayonnaise), salads with egg sauces and the like are not allowed during pregnancy, they can be extremely dangerous for the baby (salmonella!). There is nothing wrong with sausages or steak, but the meat should be well done. Otherwise, as a pregnant woman, it is easier to get through the summer if you eat a lot of fruit, vegetables, muesli and yoghurt. In summer, digestion becomes a burden even without a baby bump - and even more so.
What about exercise and exercise during pregnancy?
A lot of exercise is always good, even for pregnant women. But you should make sure that the pulse does not get too high. Exercise in the cool water is ideal: swimming in the outdoor pool. Cycling also keeps you fit, but - especially in the city - the risk of falling is quite high. However, normal, everyday exercise can quickly become a burden for pregnant women in summer due to the accumulation of water in the legs. A short, cold shower for legs and feet often helps immensely, and putting your legs up also provides relief.
And support stockings? Not a bad idea! Overall, it is advisable to dress as comfortably as possible as a heavily pregnant woman in summer, loose cotton clothes that do not constrict the body anywhere, especially not on the chest and stomach, are always good.
