Spring cleaning: clean windows without streaks and streaks
The most important points in brief
- Cleaning the windows isn't really that complicated - is it?
- In principle not, of course, but there are also pitfalls if you don't want any ugly streaks and streaks on the glass afterwards.
- However, if you stick to a few guidelines, you can create sparkling clean windows.
- In addition to regular cleaning, there are a few things to consider.
Cleaning the windows is a matter that one likes to do together with the spring cleaning, because one is already in the process of doing a sweeping blow in the house or apartment. At this point, however, the first danger lurks if you want to avoid streaks and streaks. We'll bring you more tips and tricks on this page.
Regular cleaning helps
If you only take the windows into account during spring cleaning, you shouldn't be surprised by streaks. This is because in a year - i.e. between two cleaning processes - an immense amount of dirt and dust collects on the windows. This of course favors the formation of stripes. Experts recommend cleaning the windows about every other month so that not so much dirt, pollen and the like can accumulate.
A decisive factor that is passed on from generation to generation is the weather in which windows should be cleaned. When the sky is cloudy or it is raining, it is difficult to see those areas that need to be repolished, which works best when the sun is shining and is already (or still) low. In dry heat, the cleaner dries too quickly - which also leaves streaks. So window cleaning becomes a Sisyphean job.
Cleaning rags and glass cleaner: pay attention to the selection
If you don't have a sponge or a softer cloth, it is better not to start until you have these supplies. Under no circumstances should you take a pot holder out of the kitchen, as this can scratch the glass.
The detergent is at least as important. Use tried and tested glass cleaners; if these are not just by hand, you can help yourself by mixing a little washing-up liquid with a little bit of alcohol and four or five liters of water. If you have decided on glass cleaner, the quantity is important: Too much cleaning agent ensures that the surfactants contained in it smear the glass.
Pre-cleaning helps
As in the car wash, the windows must be pre-cleaned. In principle, a cloth made of microfiber is sufficient for this, if necessary you can also slightly dampen a kitchen towel and wipe it over the window to be cleaned. However, this only makes sense if you then dry the window again before you start the main cleaning.
The drying is of course also absolutely necessary after the main cleaning. To do this, take a - this time dry - kitchen towel or chamois leather at hand, but you do not necessarily need a squeegee. If there are still a few streaks and streaks, then use a clean tea towel or grandmother's secret trick: crumpled up newspaper.
If necessary, use other cleaning agents
If neither glass cleaner nor alcohol is available and the shops are closed: Don't despair and trust the insider tips. Use lemon juice or table vinegar, also cleaning vinegar, in a mixture with water and avoid streaks that can be caused by chalky water. To loosen fat from panes, for example on the kitchen window, brew two bags of black tea in a cup and add the liquid to the cleaning water after brewing for ten minutes.
