What helps against couperose?
The most important points in brief
- Couperose occurs as redness, mostly the cheeks and the skin areas around the nose are affected.
- The reasons for this could not be more different - too much sun and high blood pressure are just as possible as heavy alcohol consumption.
- In most cases, however, there is only weak connective tissue.
- But what can you do to keep couperose at bay?
Couperose is not as rare as the name might suggest. In truth, these are copper-red colored blood vessels that are located on the surface of the facial skin. In most cases, couperose is the result of a weak connective tissue. But too much alcohol, permanently high blood pressure and excessive sunbathing can also be the cause of couperose. But there are also hereditary manifestations. The cheeks and the regions around the nose are almost always affected.
Couperose: veins that shimmer reddish through the skin
First of all, the name: Couperose comes from French and means nothing else than "copper rose". Regardless of the underlying cause - the appearance of couperose is always the same. The veins in the areas mentioned expand and become so red that they can be seen through the skin; the veins are then called telangiectasias.
But what should you do about couperose? As good as most skin care products are, in this case many of them are more likely to be harmful and lead to an undesirable effect. Many creams are known to be greasy, which is normally beneficial for the skin, but here you will not achieve any relief from couperose - on the contrary. Such creams form an insulating layer on the skin, which usually leads to heating of the tissue. As a result, the couperose will only be more clearly visible.
Moisturizing creams are better against couperose
Instead, trust only creams that moisturize and soothe the skin at the same time. The promotion of blood circulation is a welcome effect on normal skin, but if you suffer from couperose you do not want to achieve this effect. This is why you should never use creams with essential oils, as these further promote blood flow to the affected veins. This increases the reddish color.
Soothing the skin is the right strategy. And not only articles against couperose help, but also some home remedies. Moist compresses with compresses dipped in black tea constrict the veins; Horse chestnut, arnica and horsetail strengthen the connective tissue and thereby prevent the copper rose from spreading. In addition, cooling is always a good idea, for example as a cooling gel with the ingredients eucalyptus or mint. You can also achieve a cooling, calming effect with camphor.
React quickly when couperose develops
As soon as you notice the first signs of couperose, you should pull the emergency brake: Little sun, little alcohol, no greasy creams, but also hot drinks and spicy food must be reduced directly. You must also refrain from rapid and violent temperature changes, for example when taking a sauna.
If you disregard these requirements despite the onset of couperose, then it is quite possible that the copper rose will grow into a genuine rosacea. It is not uncommon for the red areas to spread over the whole face, and pustules and nodules can appear in bursts.
