What helps against nausea?
The most important points in brief
- We have all felt sick at one point or another - nausea affects us in various situations.
- Some people have an upset stomach when they are nervous, others when they travel, and sometimes you just eat something that is rotten or indigestible.
- Last but not least, pregnant women often suffer from malaise.
- But what really helps against it? We have collected the most effective home remedies and methods against nausea for you.
Some people feel upset about excitement. They feel sick before bigger moments in life, be it before an important exam at the university, before an adventure (sometimes also before the flight or the trip to the vacation spot) or before the wedding or birthday. Others tend to get nervous even before normal appointments. The result is nausea. Sometimes, however, you have simply eaten something intolerable or you are plagued by a gastrointestinal infection. And pregnant women also suffer from malaise from time to time. On this page we present some methods and home remedies for you that can help.
Tricks where you don't have to eat anything against nausea
Some of us just don't feel like eating when we feel sick. Then you can try acupressure. Stimulating the acupressure point just above the wrist on the inside of the forearm can help. But sometimes you just don't notice that the queasy stomach comes from stuffy, bad-smelling air; it helps to get some fresh air here.
This can be done with the window open or while taking a walk. The second option is even more recommended because it provides exercise, and exercise is always good for the body. A hot bath (possibly with gentle bath additives) also often helps us to drive away the nausea.
Drink and eat to neutralize the stomach
Often times gastrointestinal problems can be resolved by eating or drinking something that neutralizes the stomach. Ginger is a good example here - as a tea, for example, and chicken broth or vegetable soup also help in many cases. White bread and rusks also belong in this category, but both should be chewed well before swallowing so that the stomach has to work less. A lightly browned, grated apple often has a beneficial effect, just like a soup or a carrot porridge.
Mashed bananas are also good for the stomach, as are gruel or unseasoned mashed potatoes. A tablespoon of fruit vinegar in a glass of water that you drink slowly often helps, as does lemon balm tea, aniseed tea, cinnamon tea, lemon balm tea, caraway tea, fennel tea and mint tea.
Sometimes it's the simple things that help reduce nausea
In many cases, however, you don't have to make tea with essential oils at all to alleviate the nausea. If you are only slightly nauseous, a glass of cold water will help - of course, without carbon dioxide. In addition, you should only drink small sips. This also applies to a glass of lemon water. It is also advisable to suck on a lemon wedge to counteract an upset stomach.
Sometimes increased salivation also helps against nausea. Salivation can be achieved by chewing gum. Depending on the taste, the chewing gum may contain peppermint. Speaking of peppermint, if you feel sick you can try chewing on some peppermint leaves, the essential oils are pretty good at relieving nausea.
