What is the best way to clean chrome steel?
The most important things in brief:
- Chrome steel is a robust and hygienic material and was previously used primarily in catering kitchens
- Chrome steel can now also often be found in private households
- Cleaning chrome steel is often difficult and stains form relatively quickly
- Home remedies such as baking soda or baking soda can help remove stains on chrome steel
In the past, chrome was mainly used in large catering kitchens, where robust and hygienic material was required. Today chrome is also used in households, especially in the kitchen. Chromium steel is a type of steel in which iron is alloyed with chromium. It is not uncommon to speak of stainless steel, which is the same as chrome steel. A crucial element in increasing resistance to corrosion is chromium.
Anyone who has ever had a chrome steel surface at home knows that it can quickly become soiled with fingerprints, oil or grease and, above all, look accordingly. Once the surface has finally been cleaned and dried accordingly, it is not uncommon for unsightly stripes to form on it, which are unsightly and annoying, especially for the eye. If chrome steel is used in the sink, limescale deposits and stains can also occur there again and again. If you want to clean them, dark spots often appear. Chromium steel is therefore delicate and often very difficult to clean.
We would like to share with you what we consider to be the most important tips for cleaning chrome steel:
- Natron: Natron is not only a well-known household remedy, it can also help to remove (grease) stains and streaks on chrome steel. To do this, baking soda must be mixed with water, preferably in a ratio of 3:1, so that a white paste is formed. The paste can be rubbed into the dirty areas and then removed with a wet cloth.
- Baking soda: if you don't have baking soda at home, use baking soda. This works using exactly the same application as baking soda.
- Vinegar or vinegar essence: Limescale stains on chrome steel can be removed primarily with vinegar or vinegar essence. The same applies here: preferably in a ratio of 3:1, i.e. three times as much water as vinegar. Rub the affected areas with a cloth and then rinse with water.
- Olive oil: you can use olive oil to make chrome steel shine again. Rub a few drops of olive oil on the spots and buff. Olive oil leaves no greasy film after rubbing.
Also avoid scouring milk or steel wool - these will scratch the surface of the stainless steel. You should also be careful with acids, which are found in descaling agents, as they can attack and damage the material.
