What to do about calluses?
The most important points in brief:
- Friction and pressure are mostly triggers
- Calluses should be removed regularly
- A foot bath should always be done before removal
- Calluses are best removed using a pumice stone or a callus file
Summer time is also barefoot time. Many of them also focus on their bare feet. It is all the more important that they are well cared for and look good. Because feet with calluses can quickly convey an unintentionally dirty picture. Callus usually forms on the heels and soles of the feet and is usually yellowish and painless. But why does the cornea keep forming in many? Callus forms as a protective reaction of the outermost skin layer, namely when the skin is exposed to friction and pressure over a long period of time.
So if the cornea forms as a protective reaction, why should you remove it at all? Of course, aesthetics also play a role here. Even so, that is not the only motivation. It is well known that the cornea can swell and, in the worst case, tear. In addition, calluses can weaken the sensitivity of the skin on the feet. If you suffer from calluses, you can sit back and relax; Calluses can be treated with very simple means or can be easily removed:
- In order to be able to remove the callus gently and easily, you should first soften the callus with a foot bath. The foot bath can also consist of pure warm water or you can choose between different variants: Apple cider vinegar, lavender, lemon juice, camomile and sage, for example, have a beneficial effect.
- The feet should bathe in the foot bath for at least 10 - 15 minutes, this softens the callus.
- The callus can then be removed relatively easily with a pumice stone or a callus file.
In addition to the steps mentioned, in addition to the foot bath, part of the callus can also be minimized with a self-made peeling. Mixing salt with olive oil, for example, can be simple and quick to implement. For this purpose, salt is mixed with olive oil in a bowl and then applied to the feet as a peeling and rubbed in.
You should also repeat the mentioned measures regularly to prevent calluses. Sometimes dry skin can also promote the development of calluses. Therefore, care for your feet regularly with the appropriate moisturizing creams and / or foot masks. Appropriate footwear should always be worn to avoid pressure points and friction.
What fish and calluses have together
If you prefer to remove the skin with something else instead of pumice stone or callus file, you can do this with the increasingly popular fish pedicure. The so-called kangal or nibble fish nibble (in specially certified facilities) dead skin flakes from the feet during the foot bath. Important: this treatment is not suitable for people who have ticklish feet.
