What to do against cystitis?
The most important points in brief:
- Mostly women suffer from it
- A burning sensation when urinating and a frequent need to urinate may be signs
- Bacteria can get into the urethra through an incorrect "wiping technique"
- Drinking lots and warmth can help
Do you suddenly notice a burning sensation when urinating and do you suffer from a constant need to urinate? Do not wait too long for these symptoms, but try to do something about them as quickly as possible. It could be a bladder infection and if you don't do anything about it, it can lead to further consequences in the worst case.
Women suffer from it more often than men
Women suffer from cystitis more often than men and can be very uncomfortable. It is the most common urinary tract infection. However, the majority of bladder infections are harmless and subside after a few days. But why does a cystitis develop and why are women affected more often than men? Bladder infections are mainly caused by bacteria that are in the bladder. The fact that women have a shorter urethra makes it much easier for bacteria to enter the bladder and cause irritation and inflammation of the bladder wall. Possible causes for promoting the development of bladder infections can include:
- Too little drinking can increase the risk. Lots of water helps with complete emptying of the bladder and thus early rinsing of the pathogens
- An incorrect "wiping technique" after a bowel movement can sometimes cause a bladder infection. It is important not to wipe from the back to the front, so that intestinal bacteria only get into the urethral entrance
- An already existing cold or immune system weakness increases the risk of a bladder infection
- But what can counteract the painful burning sensation when urinating and the urge to urinate? There are home remedies for this, too, which can help with a bladder infection. The most important tips from our point of view are:
- Drink, drink, drink and drink again! Drink at least 2-3 liters of water a day so that the bacteria are flushed out of the bladder.
- Warmth, which can be given to the abdomen using a hot water bottle, can also relieve abdominal pain.
- Sitz baths in warm water containing chamomile or sage can help alleviate the symptoms.
If the symptoms do not improve, however, the Ganz is recommended to see a doctor. Depending on the severity of the bladder infection, antibiotics will then be postponed to recovery.
Cranberry helps
Whoever suffers from cystitis from time to time; Regular drinking of cranberry juice and cranberry in tablet form should help prevent cystitis.
