What to do against wax stains?
The most important things in brief:
- Wax stains can be very difficult to remove
- If wax stains are not removed correctly, they often remain
- The stains can often be removed with heat
Who doesn't know? In the Christmas season, but also in the colder winter months, candles are increasingly being lit at home. Because candlelight can create a magical atmosphere and also have a calming effect. The calming effect probably comes from the slow movements of the flame.
But as calming as candles are, it gets tedious when the wax starts to drip and you notice it much too late. Because it can be quite tedious and time-consuming to remove the wax stains that have formed. When removing wax stains, it is particularly important to take into account the material on which the wax stain was created. Below we would like to share with you what we consider to be the most important tips for removing wax stains:
In most cases, wax stains will appear on one of the three materials below, so in this article we will focus on the three materials below.
What to do with wax stains on:
Wood: The easiest and most reliable way to remove the wax is with an iron. Place an old kitchen towel over the wax stain and iron over it on the hottest setting. The aim is that the wax becomes liquid and can be absorbed directly with the base. Depending on the situation, it may be necessary to repeat the process several times until all wax stains have been removed.
If you don't have an iron at hand, the wax can be made liquid again with a hair dryer. You do this in exactly the same way as in the process with the iron mentioned above.
Glass: If there are wax stains on your glass table or if you want to remove the wax residue from the candle glass, you can remove this easily and without complications. Wax is generally easiest to remove from glass when it is cold, but small traces of wax usually remain. Boiling water can be poured over these wax marks and thus easily removed.
Clothes / Fabric: Wax is easiest to remove from fabric when the fabric is hard. For this it is recommended that you put the garment in the freezer for a few hours so that it hardens. The wax stains can then be removed by hand. If there are still wax residues on the garment, you can pour boiling water over them and remove them.
So that wax stains do not form, especially on wood or on larger glass surfaces, it is recommended to place the candle on a coaster (e.g. bowl, plate). A napkin is usually enough.
