What to do if you have lumbago?
The most important points in brief:
- These are mostly pain in the back or lower back
- Pain comes suddenly and can be triggered by a wrong movement
- Lumbago is harmless in most cases
- Warmth and exercise can help relieve pain
One wrong movement and it happened: pain in the back or in the lower back, so bad that it takes some breath away or you can hardly move anymore. Because of this, the back muscles cramp, which causes those affected to practically remain in a relieving posture. However, this only tenses the back muscles even more and increases the pain.
What does lumbago have to do with a witch?
The term "lumbago" originally comes from the Middle Ages. The name mainly has to do with the fact that the pain comes out of the blue, like lightning and then goes from the back to the leg. One thing can be said in advance; Lumbago is usually harmless and goes away quickly with a few tricks.
Tension or incorrect posture can lead to this
Most of the time it is tension, incorrect posture or blockages in the muscles that can lead to lumbago. We would like to share the most important tips from our point of view with you here:
- Heat helps to loosen the blockage. Either via a hot patch that you apply to the painful area or via a hot water bottle that you place on the affected area.
- In addition to warming plasters and bottles, warm relaxation baths can also help relieve pain.
- Even if it needs to be overcome at first, movement is helpful to be able to release the blockage accordingly. A short walk can work wonders here.
- Depending on the situation, a massage can also be beneficial and improve the symptoms.
- In the case of acute lumbago, it helps if you lie on your back and place your lower legs on a chair at a 90 ° angle.
How can you prevent lumbago?
Anyone who has ever suffered from lumbago would like to never experience it again. But what does it take to prevent lumbago in order not to get this excruciating pain again? Activity is the most important thing for this. Regular exercise, stretching, and climbing stairs can work wonders. Especially if you have an office job and spend most of the day sitting down, regular exercise and a change in posture while sitting are a must. In addition, the core and back muscles can be strengthened accordingly with special training and are therefore less prone to lumbago.
