When to clean the windows
The most important things in brief
- Basically, you can clean the windows when you think the time is right.
- If you are a tenant and there is no passage in the rental agreement or house rules about external presentation, you never have to clean.
- Of course it doesn't work that way in practice, at some point the panes are clearly too dirty.
- So when is the right time to clean the windows?
When are you likely to clean the windows? Exactly, if they are so badly soiled that it bothers you. In most cases, however, cleaning is not obligatory - unless you are a tenant and the house rules stipulate that the exterior of the house should be neat and that cleaning the windows is therefore part of it. But when is objectively the best time to clean the windows?
In spring and summer, cleaning is usually the most necessary...
If we factor in the fact that at any given time of the year there are valid reasons why windows just get dirty (pollen count, construction sites, traffic, insect stains on the outside glass), there are perfectly good reasons why certain times of the year are better suited than others to get the glass clean.
Because of course the layer of dust and dirt that comes from insects or pollen is only a problem in the warm months of the year. This means: If you prefer a clear view through the window panes, you have to regularly reach for the utensils you need to clean glass panes in spring and summer.
...in the fall, on the other hand, it's best to clean
However, this does not mean that high temperatures in spring and summer are also ideal for intensively cleaning the window panes. Then streaks appear relatively easily because the cleaning water on the glass evaporates quickly when it is hot. And cleaning away streaks is a separate and not too small effort. Are cold winter days therefore more suitable? Not necessarily, as the water applied to the pane freezes quickly and can thus further contaminate the glass.
As soon as the pollen count is over and the temperatures are not too high, window cleaning is a good idea. The end of April to the beginning of May is a very suitable time for this. However, autumn is almost perfect. Here you have neither the problem of the heat nor that of the cold. In addition, this time of year is a great time to remove any dirt left over from the summer, such as insect stains that have flew against the glass.
If possible, clean your windows in the morning
Regardless of the time of year you tackle your dirty windows, it's also important to consider the time of day. When the sun begins to set again in the afternoon and shines through the windows, it is already too late – direct sunlight should be avoided when cleaning the windows. In addition, the afternoon sun can heat up the glass, which in turn leads to streaks.
The early morning hours are ideal. Here you will find a perfect combination of good light and temperature conditions. The clear light in the morning is also ideal for discovering minor contamination and any streaks that may appear when cleaning.
