Why gift certificates are great
The most important points in brief
- Gift vouchers are without esprit, without imagination and you make it far too easy with them if you don't have your own gift idea.
- At least that is the opinion of many people today.
- But is that even true? Or are gift vouchers really elegant solutions that mean freedom of choice for the recipient?
- You definitely won't go wrong with a gift voucher, as our guide shows.
A present is always better than no present when invited to a party or when meeting family members or friends around Christmas. A lot of people are convinced that a gift voucher is an unimaginative present in this context. But why is that so? And is this belief still up to date?
A gift voucher is primarily a gift
At some point we humans started giving other people something for their birthday or Christmas. But because it is the case in our modern world that we humans actually already have everything we need or want, at some point it has become increasingly difficult to give away something original or useful. So we came up with something: vouchers.
It didn't take long before the first complainers appeared. The thing with the vouchers is unimaginative, uncreative, you make it much too easy for yourself with them, and this gift idea is impersonal on top of that. This narrative quickly caught on and is still used today. A gift voucher basically means that you have thought of the person receiving the gift and that you want to make them happy with a present. A gift voucher is first and foremost a present - and no proof that you don’t want to bother as a giver.
Do not rate the monetary value of the voucher
Many people take offense at the fact that a gift voucher has an exact monetary value. It is considered how the recipient will perceive it if a certain amount is shown on the voucher. But why do we make it so complicated? Or have you ever thought yourself when you received a voucher: "Oh, only 50 francs, that's stingy, why not 75"?
It is probably a human weakness that we evaluate certain things too often. It is forbidden to consider a gift in monetary terms alone. After all, we don't do that when someone (other than a voucher) gives us something original, right? Or do you think when someone takes you out to dinner that it could have been a more expensive restaurant?
Honesty when giving gifts
Anyone who gives away a voucher for a certain amount may not have the time to think about an individual, original present. And yet you will not be left empty-handed if you are surprised by an invitation (possibly also at short notice). Last but not least, a voucher for free use is also the opportunity for the recipient to freely choose within the scope of the offer. A great alternative to the shopping voucher is the experience voucher, for example the one from Loop Tours, with which you can give your loved ones an electric cargo bike tour in Switzerland.
