An ovulation test is a helpful tool to determine the fertile days in the monthly cycle.
The ovulation test responds to the increase in Luteinizing Hormone (LH) in a woman’s urine, indicating the timing of the monthly ovulation. The chance of getting pregnant increases significantly when you know the fertile days in your cycle. With the Evial Ovulation Test, you can determine the ideal time to start a family, even if you have an irregular cycle.
The reliable Evial Ovulation Test is simple, quick and hygienic to use. The result can be clearly seen within five minutes. Simply hold the absorbent tip in the urine stream for a few seconds. After a short time the result will be visible in the control window of the Evial Ovulation Test. If two lines of equal intensity appear in the control window, the result is positive and ovulation is imminent.

  • All Evial Ovulation Tests are CE certified and registered with Swissmedic - Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products.
  • Evial Ovulation Tests are over 99% reliable.

How does the Evial Ovulation Test work?

Ovulation is the expulsion of an egg from the ovary. For a Pregnancy to start, the egg must be fertilized within 24 hours of being expelled. Just before ovulation, the body produces an increased amount of Luteinizing Hormone (LH), which causes the egg to be expelled. The Evial Ovulation Test indicates the level of LH in your urine. Ovulation usually occurs in the middle of the menstrual cycle. During these fertile days, the probability of conception is highest. The ovulation test contains antibodies that react to the Luteinizing Hormone (LH) in the urine. When the urine comes into contact with the absorption wick, the urine sample is guided into the membrane by means of capillaries. When the LH reaches the test area, a coloured line appears. If the concentration of LH is low, the test strip’s reaction is “negative”; if the concentration of LH increases abruptly, it changes to “positive”. A coloured line appears in the control area to show whether the ovulation test has been carried out correctly.

When do I start testing with the Evial Ovulation Test?

To avoid having to do an ovulation test every day, you should first determine the length of your individual cycle and a longer window for the fertile days. The duration of the cycle is the number of days from the first day of your menstrual period to the day before the next menstrual period. Taking as an example an interval of 28 days, ovulation takes place approximately 14 days after the onset of menstruation. Since deviations in the cycle occur very frequently, making the calculation more difficult, use the shortest cycle so as not to miss ovulation. In our example, we recommend that you perform the first ovulation test no later than 11 days after the first day of the last period. Use our online calculator to find your ideal ovulation test start date.

The ovulation test reacts positively

The optimal time window to get pregnant is very short. Since sperm can survive only 2-3 days within the female body and the egg must be fertilized within 24 hours after being expelled, there is a period of 3-4 days per month during which a child can be conceived. Thus, the ideal time for sexual intercourse is after the first positive ovulation test. Find further information on the topic of having children under our heading “Getting Pregnant”.

The result displayed by the Evial Ovulation Test is always negative

The experience with the Evial Ovulation Test is very good, but what if the result is always negative? One possible explanation would be the lack of ovulation. Having no ovulation between two periods is not something unusual. Simply wait and try again in the next cycle. But there are also a few women with too little hormone increase in the cycle. Although the Evial Ovulation Test with a measuring limit of 20mlU/ml LH in the urine is very sensitive, in some cases this threshold may not be sufficient. In this case you can try to perform the ovulation test with the first morning urine. If the ovulation test still doesn’t work, the best would be to visit your gynaecologist. The LH value will be determined there, and they will investigate why the ovulation test doesn’t work and whether another method of measurement makes sense.

The Evial Ovulation Test as a contraception method

If an ovulation test can indicate the fertile days, should not it also be used as a natural contraceptive? This is quite possible, but it involves a certain risk. Natural cycle fluctuations could, for example, delay the moment of ovulation. Therefore, it is recommended to use the ovulation test as a contraceptive only in conjunction
