The argan tree (Argania spinoza) is a thorny tree whose origins go back millions of years. It grows exclusively in the southwest of Morocco and is often called the "olive tree of Morocco".

It is a very rare oil, as its production, which is carried out exclusively by women, requires many steps. First, the fruit of the argan tree is harvested, then the fruit shells are removed until only the nut kernel remains, which is then broken open. This operation requires a great deal of attention, as the valuable inner almond kernel must not be damaged. The almond kernels are then roasted over a low fire, crushed and then pressed. It takes about 20 working hours to produce one liter of argan oil.

Argan oil is rich in fatty acids such as oleic and linolenic acid and, like olive oil, contains approx. 85% unsaturated fatty acids. Compared to olive oil, argan oil has the advantage of being richer in polyunsaturated fatty acids (34% linoleic acid and linolenic acid) and contains ten times more vitamin E.
