Galactose is a substance found naturally in various foods (primarily in dairy products, but also in smaller amounts in legumes, fruits, and vegetables). Galactose occurs as a monosaccharide in both the animal and plant kingdoms and belongs to the class of hexoses. It is a typical component of the sugar layer that coats every cell. Embedded in this sugar layer, it facilitates cell-to-cell communication. The galactose contained in glycoproteins and glycolipids is important for communication between cells. Biosana’s D(+) galactose acts independently of insulin and is therefore suitable for people with diabetes. Unlike its counterpart glucose (grape sugar, dextrose), galactose acts independently of insulin and is therefore suitable for people with diabetes as well as for those with lactose intolerance. Easy to take, it has a pleasant, slightly sweet taste. Galactose is produced using gentle processes without chemical additives. In this process, milk sugar (lactose) from dairy products (e.g., whey) is broken down into its components, glucose and galactose. It can also be extracted from plant sources (legumes, larch).
