Astaxanthin is a natural pigment and a well-known, powerful antioxidant belonging to the carotenoid family. Astaxanthin is found primarily in algae and in a few types of fungi and bacteria. The organic astaxanthin extract used in our Astaxanthin Oleoresin Vegicaps is obtained from the red algae Haematococcus pluvialis using a chemical-free “supercritical fluid process.” In glass-tube facilities, the red algae are cultivated using water and sunlight in a closed-loop system—which is therefore fully controllable and resource-neutral—in accordance with strict guidelines and standards for organic aquaculture. The water used for algae cultivation is the purest mountain spring water from the Krkonoše foothills in the Czech Republic, which is continuously monitored. The production facility has its own water source on-site and features an internal water recycling system. Electricity and heat are supplied from renewable energy sources. After the algae are harvested and dried, the valuable antioxidant astaxanthin is extracted from the biomass. The result is a pure, oily astaxanthin oleoresin with a beautifully rich, dark red color. Blended with high-quality organic olive oil, the oleoresin is then encapsulated and prepared for consumption.
