Down garments become soaked with sweat very quickly in damp and wet conditions and get wet from the inside. That’s why it’s important to protect down products from moisture with the right water-repellent treatment (known as DWR). Nikwax Down Wash Direct was specially developed for down-filled products to optimize their natural properties. Nikwax Down Wash Direct is a highly effective cleaner that removes body oils and dirt from both the fabric and the down filling. It also refreshes the existing durable water-repellent (DWR) finish on both the outer fabric and the down. This protects against rain and condensation to prevent the garment from getting soaked. At the same time, the down’s natural insulating properties are preserved. Additionally, Down Wash Direct restores breathability, allowing sweat to escape from inside the jacket and thereby optimizing the down filling’s thermal performance in cold and damp weather. Application

Sleeping bags and very large jackets are best washed in the bathtub and then placed in the washing machine to spin dry. Undiluted Down Wash Direct can be applied to stubborn stains before washing. Please remove any parts that cannot be washed before washing. Shake well before use. Follow the care instructions. Do not use conventional detergents. Machine wash (for down clothing only): Remove all detergent residue from the detergent dispenser. Place the items in the washing machine (maximum of 2 items per wash cycle). Use 2 full capfuls (100 ml). Select the wash cycle according to the care instructions, preferably a gentle cycle with a low spin speed. Spin the down product several times after the wash cycle to remove excess water; however, it is best to start at a low spin speed and increase it gradually—this protects the fabric and down filling. (Wash sleeping bags by hand or in a commercial washing machine, e.g., at a laundromat.)
