What is herpes labialis? Herpes labialis is a herpes simplex virus infection that manifests as a cluster of blisters on the lips. These blisters are also known as “cold sores.” What are the symptoms of herpes labialis? The first symptoms include a warm, tingling sensation on the lip, as well as the appearance of reddish spots. Within a few hours, fluid-filled blisters begin to form. Cold sores can be triggered by a weakened immune system, fever, menstruation, stress, intense sun exposure, or the consumption of certain foods. Cold sores can recur repeatedly because the virus remains in the body after the initial infection and can be reactivated by these triggers. What should you keep in mind regarding herpes labialis? If you have an active cold sore, avoid lip-to-lip contact with others until the blisters have completely healed. Cold sores are highly contagious! Application

Wash your hands before applying the patch. Make sure there are no traces of cream on the affected area and that the skin is dry so that the patch adheres properly. Open the protective sleeve and remove the patch by lifting the opposite edge of the backing (see illustration). Place half of the patch on the affected area and peel back the other half so that the patch adheres completely to the cold sore. Wear the patch until it comes off on its own. Repeat the application until the cold sore has healed.
