The ‘Matilda’ butternut squash impresses with its characteristic elongated, pear-shaped form and decoratively ribbed surface. This early-maturing variety produces aromatic fruit weighing up to 4 kg and is ideally suited to long-term use thanks to its good storage life. The delicate flesh offers versatile culinary possibilities, adding a mild, nutty flavour to soups, vegetable dishes and many other recipes. Sow directly outdoors from mid-May or start earlier in pots. Sow 2 seeds per pot or planting spot at a depth of approximately 3 cm. Germination takes 7–10 days at 15–25°C.

The warmth-loving ‘Matilda’ butternut squash prefers a sunny, warm location outdoors. From mid-May, plant out with a spacing of 1 × 2 m. After germination, leave only the strongest plant per pot or planting spot. The variety has high nutrient and water requirements and develops particularly well on compost heaps. Mature squashes can be stored at approximately 15–18°C, keeping the tasty fruit available for a longer period.
