The “Mailänder” turnip is a fast-growing variety that is particularly suitable for an early harvest in the garden. It can be sown in a cold frame as early as March, and its rapid development allows for an early harvest. From April and May, it can also be sown directly outdoors. The tender turnips are versatile in the kitchen and perform well under a range of growing conditions. Germination takes 5–10 days at 14–18°C.

The “Mailänder” turnip is suitable both for protected cultivation in a cold frame and for growing outdoors. Sow in rows spaced 25cm apart, then thin out the young plants to 10–12cm in good time so they can develop optimally. For vigorous growth, incorporate compost or a small amount of all-purpose vegetable fertiliser. With its rapid maturity, this variety is ideal for gardeners who want to harvest fresh vegetables early in the year.
