Distinctive, organically grown rooibos from the Cederberg Mountains of South Africa—easy to digest, fruity, and caffeine-free. The subtle tangerine note contributes to the uniqueness of this blend. The rugged beauty of the “Cederberg Mountain” region in southwestern South Africa is home to the rooibos plant—about 200 km north of Cape Town, around the towns of Clanwilliam and Citrusdal. It is found exclusively in this area worldwide, so it is no surprise that it has become South Africa’s national drink. It is not known exactly how old the rooibos plant (Afrikaans rooi = red and bos = bush) is, but in 1772 it was first described by botanist Carl Thunberg as a medicinal plant of the Khoisan people. Unlike black or green tea, rooibos tea contains no caffeine and very few tannins, meaning that potential effects such as a bitter taste or sleeplessness do not occur. To give the rooibos a more exclusive note, we blended it with a little hibiscus and tangerine, an Asian variety of the mandarin that is better known here. The result is a wonderful tea with an exquisite aroma that can also be enjoyed late in the evening.

Preparation

Rooibos should be brewed at a water temperature of 95–98°C (after boiling the water in the kettle, let it stand briefly and wait until it is no longer boiling).
