The oils and essential oils used in these hand soaps are 100% certified organic or wild-harvested. The coconut oil comes from a Fair Trade project in the Dominican Republic. We source our olive oil from cooperatives in Spain, Italy, and Greece.

Biodegradation: Soap made from vegetable oils has the unique property of forming a compound with the calcium carbonate—which is always present in wastewater—immediately after use. As a result, the soap neutralizes its own surfactant effect (primary degradation). This primary degradation occurs within a few hours. The lime soap is then 100% broken down by microorganisms into carbon dioxide and water (secondary degradation). Ethanol reintegrates into the natural cycle within a few hours. In addition to the natural glycerin released from the oils during saponification, we also use plant-based glycerin, which helps retain moisture in the skin. During the manufacturing process of sugar surfactants, components—starch, sugar, and fat—are extracted from the plant-based raw materials, yet their natural structural integrity is fully preserved. Therefore, it is relatively easy for microorganisms to rapidly and completely break down these surfactants 100%. According to the OECD, soap and sugar surfactants are considered readily biodegradable.
