Buy Stop Hémo Sterile Hemostatic Cotton Balls (5-pack)
Cotton wool that helps stop bleeding and promote wound healing for nosebleeds or bleeding from the skin or mouth.
Sterile, bioactive powder. Particularly useful for cuts on the head, irritation and injuries in skin folds, a sore bottom, as well as injuries to a pet’s fur. 5 individual, ready-to-use, hemostatic calcium alginate cotton pads, individually packaged. Stop Hémo is:
- hemostatic: Introducing calcium into the wound helps accelerate the clotting process and thus quickly stop the bleeding
- Wound-healing: Calcium helps stimulate the key cells involved in scar formation
- Soothing: Upon contact with the wound, the fibers gel to maintain a moist environment around the wound. This helps reduce the sensation of pain.
Stop Hémo is effective in patients with bleeding disorders that are either congenital or caused by certain treatments (antiplatelet agents, vitamin K antagonists, heparin). Stop Hémo can be used in children, pregnant women, and adults.
Application
Nosebleeds (Epistaxis):
- Tilt your head forward and gently blow your nose to remove any blood clots.
- Open the pouch along the dotted line. Roll Stop Hémo into a compact stick. Stop Hémo may only be moistened with a 0.9% NaCl saline solution to facilitate insertion into the nostril.
- Insert Stop Hémo into the nostril and pinch both nostrils closed for 10 minutes.
- Leave Stop Hémo in the nose for at least 30 minutes and no more than 24 hours. Use the pouch for disposal.
Bleeding in the mouth / tooth extraction (lips, gums, tongue, etc.):
- Place Stop Hémo on the wound and remove it as soon as the bleeding has stopped.
Skin wounds (bleeding and/or healing):
- Clean the wound with water and soap (or a 0.9% NaCl saline solution), apply Stop Hémo to the wound, and: - remove it once bleeding has stopped, or - leave it on the wound to promote healing and remove it after 24 hours.
If bleeding persists, seek medical advice. When removing the dressing, do not attempt to remove any fibers that may remain in the wound; these will come out on their own with the scab. Stop Hémo can be used with lidocaine-naphazoline.
Notes
Stop Hémo may only be moistened with a 0.9% NaCl saline solution: the Na+ ions in the NaCl solution exchange places with the Ca2+ ions in Stop Hémo, causing it to gel and allowing for painless removal of Stop Hémo. Check the package for damage before use. Never cut or tear open Stop Hémo. Stop Hémo must be removed after 24 hours. For single use only. Do not reuse, as this poses a risk of microbial contamination and loss of efficacy. Stop Hémo must not be used with alkaline solutions such as sodium hypochlorite, products containing chlorhexidine, benzalkonium chloride, or copper nitrate. If these products come into contact with the wound, rinse thoroughly with a 0.9% NaCl solution before applying Stop Hémo.
