The ovulation test detects the surge in luteinizing hormone (LH) in a woman’s urine, thereby indicating the timing of her monthly ovulation. Your chances of getting pregnant increase significantly when you know your fertile days during your cycle. With the Evial Ovulation Test, you can determine the ideal time to start a family, even if you have an irregular cycle.
The reliable Evial Ovulation Test is easy, quick, and hygienic to use. The result is clearly visible within five minutes. Simply hold the absorbent tip under the urine stream for a few seconds. After a short time, the result will appear in the control window of the Evial Ovulation Test. If two lines of roughly equal intensity appear in the control window, the result is positive and ovulation is imminent.
- All Evial ovulation tests are CE-marked and registered with Swissmedic (Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products).
- Evial ovulation tests are more than 99% reliable.
How does the Evial ovulation test work?
Ovulation refers to the release of an egg from the ovary. For pregnancy to occur, the egg must be fertilized within 24 hours of its release. Immediately before ovulation, the body produces an increased amount of luteinizing hormone (LH), which triggers the release of the egg. The Evial Ovulation Test measures the level of LH in your urine. Ovulation usually occurs in the middle of the menstrual cycle. During these fertile days, the likelihood of conception is highest.
The ovulation test contains antibodies that react to luteinizing hormone (LH) in urine. When the urine comes into contact with the absorbent wick, the urine sample is drawn into the membrane via capillaries. When the LH reaches the test area, a colored line appears. If the LH concentration is low, the test strip shows a “negative” result; if the LH concentration spikes, it changes to “positive.” A colored line appears in the control zone to indicate whether the ovulation test was performed correctly.
When should I start using the Evial ovulation test?
To avoid having to take an ovulation test every day, first determine the length of your individual cycle and a broader time frame for your fertile days. Cycle length refers to the number of days from the first day of your period to the day before your next period. Let’s take a 28-day cycle as an example: ovulation occurs about 14 days after the start of your period. Since variations in the cycle are very common—which makes calculations difficult—base your estimates on your shortest cycle to ensure you don’t miss ovulation. In our example, we would recommend taking the first ovulation test no later than 11 days after the first day of your last period. Use our online calculator to determine the ideal time to start taking ovulation tests.
The ovulation test is positive
The optimal window for getting pregnant is very short. Since sperm can survive in the female body for only 2–3 days and the egg must be fertilized within 24 hours after ovulation, this leaves a period of 3–4 days per month during which a child can be conceived. Therefore, the ideal time for intercourse is after the first positive ovulation test. Under our “Getting Pregnant” section, you’ll find more information on the topic of trying to conceive.
The Evial ovulation test always shows a negative result
Experiences with the Evial ovulation test have been very positive, but what if the result keeps coming back negative? One possible explanation could be that ovulation isn’t occurring. It’s not unusual for ovulation to skip a cycle once in a while. In this case, it’s best to wait and try again during the next cycle.
However, there are also a few women whose hormone levels do not rise enough during their cycle. Although the Evial ovulation test is very sensitive, with a detection limit of 20 mIU/mL of LH in urine, this threshold may not be sufficient in a few cases. In such cases, you can try taking the ovulation test with your first morning urine. If the ovulation test still does not work, it is advisable to see a gynecologist. The gynecologist will determine your LH level and investigate why the ovulation test is not working and whether another testing method would be appropriate.
The Evial Ovulation Test as a Contraceptive Method
If an ovulation test can identify fertile days, shouldn’t it also be possible to use it as a natural method of birth control? This is certainly possible, but it does carry a certain risk. Natural cycle fluctuations, for example, could shift the timing of ovulation. Therefore, it is recommended to use the ovulation test as a method of birth control only in combination with other measures. If you wish to forgo other measures, be sure to estimate the window of possible fertile days very generously. Remember, sperm can survive in the female body for up to 3 days.
