The Willi Fox–Helicobacter pylori Stool Test is a visual immunoassay for the qualitative detection of H. pylori antigens in stool samples. Helicobacter pylori (formerly known as Campylobacter pylori) is a spiral-shaped bacterium with characteristic flagella. It is Gram-negative and causes inflammation of the stomach lining. It causes various stomach diseases, such as dyspepsia, stomach and duodenal ulcers, and gastritis. H. pylori can increase the risk of developing gastric adenocarcinoma, which is why it has been classified as a Group 1 carcinogen.

Various Helicobacter strains have been isolated that differ in their virulence. The more virulent strains are primarily characterized by the presence of the vacuolating cytotoxin (VacA) and the so-called cytotoxin-associated genes (cag) pathogenicity island. These factors, which play a role in the infiltration of the gastric mucosa, are frequently associated with the persistence of the infection and are considered clinically important contributing factors to sudden inflammation, ulcer formation (gastric and duodenal ulcers), allergic reactions, and reduced treatment efficacy
