Noroviruses are the leading cause of nonbacterial gastroenteritis outbreaks in children and adults worldwide and the second most common viral cause of sporadic diarrhea in all age groups. Viral infections can be particularly dangerous for children, adolescents, the elderly, and immunocompromised patients. The Willi Fox – Norovirus GGI & GGII Rapid Test is a visual, one-step immunoassay for the rapid qualitative detection of noroviruses in human stool samples. This test is intended to aid in the diagnosis of a norovirus infection. Noroviruses belong to the Caliciviridae family and comprise a group of highly heterogeneous single-stranded RNA viruses.

Noroviruses are divided into five genogroups (GG), of which only three (GGI, GGII, and GGIV) are pathogenic to humans. Noroviruses frequently isolated in cases of acute gastroenteritis belong to two genogroups: Genogroup GGII (particularly genotype GII.4) is responsible for the majority of norovirus infections worldwide. This genotype includes the Bristol virus, Lordsdale virus, Toronto virus, Mexico virus, Hawaii virus, and Snow Mountain virus.
