Otovent-System for all complaints with negative pressure in the middle ear e.g. chronic tubal middle ear catarrh (seromucotympanum), chronic tubal dysfunction, tympanic cavity effusion, barotitis due to rapid change in air pressure as in air travel, diving, mountain and Talride, pressure chamber. The middle ear is an air-filled cavity located between the eardrum and the inner ear. An air channel between the middle ear and the nasopharynx, called the eustachian tube, normally ensures that the middle ear is adequately ventilated and any accumulated fluid can drain away. Common causes of middle ear infections are infections from the nasopharynx that are carried away via the Eustachian tube. The most common cause in children is a trivial respiratory infection, enlarged pharyngeal tonsils, or chronic infections of the oberal airways. Tube ventilation disorder is an obstruction of the eustachian tube, usually caused by inflammatory diseases in the nasal and pharyngeal regions, but also by rapid changes in air pressure (e.g., when flying). One notices a feeling of pressure and fullness in the ear (like "water in the ear"). Hearing is dull and difficult. Otovent can be used when negative middle ear pressure is not relieved, e.g. in case of tubal dysfunction, middle ear inflammation with effusion, pressure chamber treatment, during or after flying, after diving.
