The blackthorn loves sunny hills and dry, light deciduous forests with calcareous, deep soil. The black, up to 3 m high shrub with side shoots transformed into thorns flowers in March to April. Even before the leaves, the white, small, sweet-tart, delicate bitter almond-scented flowers appear, which are so dense along the entire length of the branch on short shoots that the whole shrub is covered in white. The shrub, touched by the spirit through these blossoms, looks like small white clouds in the landscape. Only after the blossoms do the oval, sawn leaves develop, and in late summer the black-bluish fruits, reminiscent of small plums, with green, sour flesh. In the way the blackthorn carries out its course of life, it expresses that it has strong life forces within itself, which it does not reveal so much to the outside, but rather preserves it in a certain inwardness.
