Massage oil - what do I have to consider when choosing?
The most important things in brief:
- Massages are used for relaxation, but can also be used to relieve pain
- Once you know what the massage is supposed to do, you can choose the right oil
- Jojoba oil is often used as a base oil
- Essential oils can have an analgesic or relaxing effect
A massage is one thing above all: soothing! However, the reason for the massage plays an important role. On the one hand there is the massage for pain relief or alleviation and on the other hand there is the soothing massage for relaxation. Of course, there are different forms and types of massage, but we do not want to go into detail about them in this article.
- Pain Relief Massage:
Neck or back pain due to incorrect posture: quite a few are familiar with this unpleasant pain. The pain often occurs due to tension, incorrect posture or blockages in the muscles. A massage often helps to relieve pain and relax the muscles.
- Soothing massage:
The main thing about a soothing massage is that the person being massaged relaxes - both physically and mentally.
Since the massage oil is often the basis of a good massage and the effect of a massage is additionally supported by high-quality oil, the correct selection is elementary. Unfortunately, the choice is not easy, as there are countless massage oils on the market. It is therefore particularly important that you are clear about what the massage should bring.
We would like to share with you what we consider to be the most important tips for choosing the right massage oil:
- Base oil: If the massage oil is to be used primarily as a lubricant for hands on dry or hairy skin, so-called base oils such as almond oil or jojoba oil can be used. For particularly dry or irritated skin, we recommend avocado oil, which contains vitamins A and E and therefore has a particularly nourishing effect on the skin.
- Essential oils: If you want to relax tense muscles, for example, or if you want to fall asleep better because of the massage, you should use an essential oil. Curcuma, ginger or juniper are pain-relieving. Ginger oil in particular warms and helps to treat inflammation or symptoms such as headaches or menstrual cramps.
Lavender, lemon balm and St. John's wort help to relax. Lavender oil in particular is versatile, as it promotes restful sleep, among other things, but can also be used to treat headaches or cold symptoms.
If the massages do not improve the symptoms, it is recommended to consult a doctor accordingly. While essential oils can help relieve initial symptoms and discomfort, they are not a substitute for a doctor's visit.
