What helps against psoriasis?
The most important points in brief
- Contrary to popular belief, psoriasis is not a condition that only affects the scalp.
- In principle, the lichen can break out anywhere on the body.
- The causes of the disease, also known as psoriasis, can be very diverse.
- A complete cure for psoriasis is not possible. There are several ways to do this to alleviate the symptoms.
Those who do not suffer from psoriasis themselves often live under the mistaken assumption that this disease occurs exclusively on the scalp. It is true, however, that psoriasis can actually affect the whole body. Often a genetic predisposition is the reason for psoriasis, the disease is inherited. On this page we will show you how you can still live with it.
Causes and symptoms of psoriasis
But not only the genome, but also the way of life is often the reason why the skin disease breaks out in the first place. Anyone who carries around psychological problems is susceptible; obesity and a poor diet with lots of alcohol can also trigger psoriasis. In addition, psoriasis can easily get into the organism through infections or injuries. And hormone fluctuations and metabolic disorders are not the reasons.
As different as the causes are, so similar are the symptoms of psoriasis. The skin forms shiny scales, particularly on the scalp, shins or elbows, and the affected areas on the skin become inflamed and red. Itching is almost always associated with these symptoms. In addition, there can be swelling of the joints, which is referred to as psoriatic arthritis. And last but not least, in some cases pus-containing pustules form on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet.
Changing your diet can help against psoriasis
You can change your diet overnight to combat psoriasis. Foods with omega-3 fatty acids help here, such as nuts and seafood. Legumes and whole grains with a lot of vitamin B are also beneficial, but you should significantly reduce your consumption of animal fats.
If psoriasis occurs more frequently on the head, you can try olive oil or coconut oil, which you can apply to the affected areas several times a week and leave for about a quarter of an hour before rinsing it out thoroughly (only with clear water!). Under no circumstances should you use products with chemical additives for psoriasis on the head, pay close attention to the information on the packaging.
Home remedies for psoriasis
There is hope for psoriasis that even some home remedies can provide relief and relief. For example, an aloe vera gel, applied to the appropriate skin areas, makes sense as it can inhibit inflammation. And because flaky skin needs moisture, various oils and creams, for example made from hemp, almonds, black cumin or grape seeds, are also suitable. Dip apple cider vinegar with water (mixing ratio 1 to 15) in a cotton cloth and place this on the affected areas.
Envelopes with cold water, cold black tea or ice cubes can also reduce the itching. A salt bath in your own tub soothes stressed skin, use a pound of real sea salt on a half-full bathtub with warm water. This loosens the dandruff and relaxes you, but that's enough on a weekly basis. To reduce the psychological tension somewhat, you can start with relaxation techniques, yoga or meditation in addition to the home remedies mentioned.
If, despite everything, the psoriasis does not get better or even worsens, you should definitely consult a doctor.
