What can be done against dark circles?
The most important points in brief:
- Dark circles are in most cases a cosmetic problem
- Eye pads, potatoes and coconut oil can help against this
- Dark circles can also be genetic
Many of us suffer from so-called dark circles. But what are dark circles and why are there people who suffer more, others less? Dark shades, which are strongest below the eyes, are called dark circles. However, dark circles can also be puffy. In most cases this is a cosmetic problem, in very rare cases dark circles can appear as a symptom of an illness. Dark circles can be caused by a lack of sleep, stress or a lack of nutrients. Often there is also a genetic predisposition to dark circles.
Many people try to hide dark circles under their eyes, but this does not always work equally well. We would like to share with you what we believe to be the most important tips for treating dark circles under the eyes:
- Eye pads that contain hyaluronic acid and collagen help most people to get rid of dark circles in a short time
- Roll-ons with a massage effect stimulate blood circulation and cell generation and the skin becomes more relaxed as a result. In addition, the dark color disappears under the eyes.
- Potatoes aren't just good for eating. They can also help fight dark circles under the eyes, among other things. Due to their bleaching properties, they can naturally lighten the dark circles under the eyes. To do this, the potatoes must be peeled, cut or grated and wrapped in a thin cloth that you can place on the affected areas. It is recommended to store the potatoes in the refrigerator for at least 1-2 hours before use.
- Dip two cotton wool pads in cold milk and place them on the eyes for at least 10-15 minutes. Milk contains substances that constrict blood vessels and thus reduce swelling.
- Coconut oil helps supply the skin under the eyes with enough moisture.
- Green and black teas are not only good to drink, they also help fight dark circles. Place two cold tea bags (which have been boiled in water beforehand) on the eyes for about 10-15 minutes. The dark shadows and swelling are reduced.
- Sufficient fluid is not only necessary to fight dark circles, but also helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
When to the doctor?
However, if the dark circles persist for a long time, it is recommended to investigate the cause of the dark circles. Dark circles can sometimes also occur with iron deficiency, kidney or thyroid disease. It is also possible that the dark circles are due to hyperpigmentation, i.e. excessive pigmentation of the skin. In any case, you should consult an appropriate specialist.
