What to do if your scalp is flaky?
The most important points in brief:
- With the right measures, the symptoms can be alleviated
- There are dry and greasy dandruff
- Anti-dandruff shampoos don't always help
- Simple home remedies can work wonders
Many of us suffer from it: If, as a precautionary measure, one no longer wears dark clothing, for fear that one might see the scales on them - then at the latest the moment has come to address the problem accordingly.
About every 27-30 days, the cells of the human skin renew themselves. The uppermost cell layers are constantly flaking off. You can only see these cell layers when they combine to form clumps of cells. There are two different types of dandruff; dry and fatty. The well-known, white flakes of skin that are on the scalp are the so-called dry flakes. If the scales are slightly yellow in color, if they are oily and also slightly larger, they are greasy scales.
Anti-dandruff shampoos & Co.
If you now think that the problem can easily be solved with anti-dandruff shampoos, then we can tell you right away: you are wrong! Most anti-dandruff shampoos dry out the scalp, so the problem is only exacerbated rather than improved.
There are the following tips against dry dandruff, which can be helpful:
- Leave the olive oil hair mask on overnight and rinse off the next day with lukewarm water
- Use mild (organic) hair shampoo or baby shampoo to protect your scalp
- Let the hair air dry if possible. If this is not possible, blow-dry your hair on the lowest temperature setting
- Washing your hair daily can irritate and dry out the scalp. Avoid washing your hair every day. If possible every 3-7 days
- If you suffer from oily dandruff, these tips may help you:
- What doesn't work against dry dandruff will help with oily dandruff: anti-dandruff shampoos. Excess fat is washed out by these shampoos.
- A hair mask / conditioner made from herbal oils (e.g. sage, thyme), which has a balancing effect on sebum production
- Massage a few drops of coconut oil onto your scalp, preferably leave it on for more than 30 minutes and then rinse
- Even with greasy dandruff, too frequent hair washing and, above all, hot blow-drying should be avoided
Proper nutrition is also essential for dandruff. Make sure that you eat enough foods that contain vitamin A, vitamin E and biotin.
