Which deodorants can you rely on in summer?
The most important points in brief
- People produce more sweat in summer so that the body is protected from overheating.
- However, sweat that develops under the armpits tends to smell very unpleasant after a certain period of time.
- However, there are deodorants that on the one hand inhibit perspiration and on the other hand ensure that the smells do not become too unpleasant.
- Yes: Which deodorants can you really rely on when the temperatures rise?
When the temperatures rise outside, we also perspire more. Sweating is essential for us to survive, so we cool our body temperature down. For our fellow human beings, however, excessive perspiration is not particularly pleasant, as it usually results in unpleasant smells. To keep these smells at bay, you naturally use deodorant, so-called antiperspirants help against wet armpits. But which deodorants can you really rely on in summer when it really matters?
When it comes to deodorant, it doesn't depend on the type of application
As we all know, deodorant can be applied to the armpit in various forms: as a spray, as a cream, as a stick, as a roller, as a crystal or as a block. Whether a deodorant is effective against excessive perspiration does not depend on this form. The German "Stiftung Warentest" conducted a larger study into the effects of deodorants and came across some interesting facts.
The fact that sweat does not smell is not one of them - but it is interesting that only bacteria ignite the unpleasant aromas. And deodorants can help against these scents caused by germs if they are put together correctly. Some deodorants already prevent sweat from developing under the arms, which is the most efficient way to get through the day without pungent body odors.
An effective deodorant does not have to be expensive
One of the most interesting results of the study is that you don't necessarily have to spend a lot of money on a deodorant that is supposed to prevent or reduce perspiration and / or whitewash unpleasant smells. In principle, the well-known branded products all get away with a good grade. What doesn't help much, however, is baking soda. Here the manufacturer has tried to want to suck up the sweat with baking soda. This helps against wet armpits, but not against odors.
The antiperspirants (i.e. the sweat stoppers) are usually a little cheaper than deodorants, which are supposed to prevent odor formation - most of the articles examined by Stiftung Warentest, however, were described as effective. When it comes to deodorants with Lilial - a liquid fragrance that is supposed to be reminiscent of lilies of the valley and is used in many products in the cosmetic industry and in cleaning agents - the institute advises caution, as Lilial is suspected of altering the genetic make-up or impairing fertility. < / p>
Aluminum salt inhibits perspiration, but could be toxic
Deodorants, which promise sweat inhibition and at the same time do not contain aluminum salt, are also viewed critically by the foundation with regard to their effect. The salt blocks the sweat gland or its pores for a while, until now no adequate substitute has been found that achieves the same effect. However, it cannot be ruled out that aluminum salts could cause Alzheimer's disease or breast cancer. However, there are no clear studies on this yet.
When buying deodorant, trust your judgment and try out some products. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right deodorant for you that works by preventing perspiration and suppressing the formation of odors.
